Hello and welcome to BarclayBlacks’ blog, where I’ll be writing about children’s clothing, the industry, my passion for organic material, the impact of our industry on the environment and other topics that I hope you’ll find interesting and relevant…
But perhaps an introduction to who I am and why we’re doing what we do. My name’s Graeme and way back in the mists of time, I studied horticulture and garden design, going on to run my own garden design and landscaping business. As my business changed, I moved on to studying Environmental Science and somehow ended up spending 10 years in corporate marketing. Maybe more about that another time!
About 4 years ago, my wife announced that she was opening a children’s clothing shop, Funky Rascal, and with two very young children also an important factor, I decided to leave corporate life and take what I’d learnt into a small business.
Almost immediately she picked up managing Swedish brand, Maxomorra, in the UK as, what we
discovered, is called an agent. And so, BarclayBlacks was born, although we didn’t know it at the
time. In the last 12 months, as we’ve helped the brand take off in the UK, we’ve realised how
enjoyable this side of business is (and it fits my background in b2b marketing), so we’re formalising BarclayBlacks as an agency.
My background in horticulture and the environment fits nicely with the organic clothing market and our aim is to pick up more organic brands and help promote them in the UK market. We’re also passionate about the great outdoors and the incredible value in getting children outdoors whatever the weather, enjoying and experiencing nature, the environment and appreciating being outdoors in wild weather! So we may pick up some outdoors brands too.
It’s an exciting time for us and we’ll be at Bubble London this weekend (13th, 14th July) buying for our shop and talking to one or two brands whom we hope to help grow in the UK.
